Jared Kushner negotiated an agreement with Russia to bring forty-five enthusiasts to the United States to combat the coronavirus crisis, but all turned out to be flawed, according to a new report.
Two senior Trump administration officials told the Daily Beast that Kushner, President Donald Trump’s father-in-law and one of his most sensible advisers, helped secure an order for fan-adding aircraft.
They were unloaded from a Russian brand in New York in March, when the COVID-19 outbreak intensified in the state.
The report indicates that the order was executed through the State Department, but accelerated through Kushner’s appointments with Kirill Dmitriev, executive director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, a sovereign investment fund of the Russian government.
According to The Daily Beast, some of the curtains were paid for through the fund, which is subject to U. S. sanctions that restrict their interactions with U. S. entities but do not completely block them.
Delivery arrived, but met expectations. Officers in New York and New Jersey told the Daily Beast that enthusiasts were working.
Other media outlets reported problems with fans; Two U. S. officials told ABC News in May that they may simply not be used due to tension issues.
ABC also reported that the shipment contained thousands of medical materials not used in hospitals, such as family cleaning gloves, and that Russia has billed the United States for about $660,000 for those products.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had asked Trump’s management for more fans, saying on March 24 that the state had 30,000 more.
“We’ve tried everything, ” said Cuomo. ” The way we can get those enthusiasts is from the federal government. Period. “
According to The Daily Beast, Cuomo was surprised to see the materials coming from Russia; expected them to come from federal stocks or occur in the United States.
The Russian ambassador to the United States called the dispatch a “humanitarian mission. ” Trump praised the device and told a press conference on April 2 that Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced him to the device on a phone call.
