Tokyo, November 11 (IANS) The Japanese government has made a decision on a policy that allows each prefectural government to claim enhanced measures against coronaviruses, amid growing considerations about the possible arrival of the eighth wave of infection.
Japan’s fitness ministry also participated in an assembly on Thursday to revise the existing five-scale prestige infection alert to a four-scale alert. A point similar to the seventh wave or higher will be classified as point 3, meaning infections continue to spread.
The country recorded 78,268 new infections nationwide on the same day, more than 10,000 more than a week ago, with new deaths among Covid-19 patients, news firm Xinhua reported.
Tokyo has shown 7969 cases, Hokkaido reporting 8457 and Kanagawa Prefecture 5190.
According to the Ministry of Health, Hokkaido, the largest island in the north, experienced the largest growth among the 47 prefectures with 850 cases compared to another 100,000 people in the past week, adding that in areas with colder weather, infections can spread faster due to the difficulty of establishing ventilation.
Shigeru Omi, who heads the specialized organization that advises the fitness ministry, said Thursday that the number of new infections is now across Japan, adding that the country can be said to be now entering the eighth wave of infections.
On Wednesday, the ministry’s expert panel warned that the latest wave of infections could match or surpass the peak of the last wave of more than 260,000 cases recorded in August.
