Japan has further eased its COVID-19-related restrictions, despite all that allows for a layover in the land of the emerging sun without escort.
From September 7, foreign tourists will be able to stop in the Pacific archipelago without being connected to a guided tour. In addition, the arrival ceiling will also go from 20,000 to 50,000 tourists per day.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he hoped the new measures would wake up the former economic powerhouse’s tourism industry, still stunned after nearly 3 years of punitive restrictions. He added that favorable exchange rates for tourists, in particular, are expected to be a primary draw.

One of the latest COVID-19 bans in the world, it has been closed to all tourists since 2020.

Ministers hope the relaxation of existing restrictions will bring the country’s economy to life, as strict guided tours have been popular with tourists. According to the Japan Immigration Services Agency, only 8,155 foreign tourists visited Japan in June and July. It remains to be seen, however, whether maintaining a strict limit of 50,000 arrivals may deter some tourists from booking trips.
Although at the time of writing, the UK Foreign Office has not yet updated the rules on its website, you will no longer want to provide a negative COVID-19 cheque until 72 hours before your departure, nor will you have to be signed until an approved tour.
Instead, you just want to be fully vaccinated and sign up for a tour package, the precise main points of which are still available.
Whether it may turn out that you have won two doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna (or one from Johnson)
If you are known as a close contact of the person who tests positive upon arrival, you will want to quarantine or self-isolate for 7 days.
Unvaccinated travelers who no longer want to self-isolate must present a negative check up to 72 hours before departure, signed and stamped through the laboratory where it was made.
