Japan will most likely ease COVID-19 restrictions for others arriving from China after the rate of positive cases among travelers recently declined, local media reported Thursday.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government is expected to ease border controls for people arriving from China until the end of the month and adopt a more selective strategy for testing passengers, Kyodo news company reported, citing unnamed official sources.

Last month, restrictions were imposed in Japan and some other countries, adding that travelers from China had to test negative for COVID-19.

In retaliation, Beijing suspended the issuance of visas to Japanese citizens and then resumed it.

Beijing has suspended the issuance of short-stay visas to South Korean citizens for visit, business, tourism, medical and transit purposes.

In addition to Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France, Morocco, Qatar, Canada, Greece, Malaysia, Finland and the Netherlands have imposed restrictions on travelers arriving from China, adding the requirement to test negative for COVID-19. results.

China abandoned its “zero covid” policy last month and allowed all overseas travel.
