Japan has prevented a build-up in the total number of deaths during its deadliest month of the coronavirus pandemic, indicating that the country has controlled to restrict coVID-19 damage.
Countrywide mortality fell by 3.5% in May compared to the previous year, and Japan recorded a total of 108,380 deaths, regardless of the cause, according to the knowledge published Tuesday through the Ministry of Health. The month, in which much of the country was in a state of emergency, recorded the highest number of deaths to date from COVID-19. Japan officially recorded 468 coronavirus-related deaths in May, almost part of its total to date 1001.
Japan’s viral approach, which chose to avoid mass testing in the early stages of the epidemic, raised the question of whether the effect of the epidemic may have been worse than expected. But knowledge recommends that the country, which has the fewest reported deaths from all Group of Seven countries, is largely unaware of the deaths due to the pandemic.
The effects come at a time when Japan is struggling to cope with a new outbreak of coronavirus cases across the country, while resisting pressure to impose restrictions on companies that can cause additional harm to an economy already affected by recession. While Hong Kong and parts of Australia have re-imposed stricter measures after the increase in cases in these regions, Japan objected.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, praised Japan as a “good example” of a country that has kept mortality low.
“I Japan is a success,” Tedros said Monday. “If the mortality rate is taken in Japan, even as the number of cases increases, they have controlled to keep the number of deaths to a minimum.”
Japan was under a state of emergency for much of May, which was only lifted on May 25. This would possibly have contributed to the overall decrease in deaths, with suicides and fatal injuries on the road falling while others stayed at home. The drop in mortality was notable in Tokyo, which had 7% fewer deaths in May than an average year.
Concern about the viral scenario in Japan is developing as cases have increased in recent weeks. An epidemic that was first the idea of limiting itself to nightlife spaces in Tokyo has spread to workplaces and across the country. Many population centers recorded their highest daily instances in recent days, while Japan in total recorded nearly 1,000 new instances on Tuesday, a record.
The government has tried to divert attention from the number of uncooked cases to the number of serious infections, which remain low, as many of them basically involve more young people. However, mortality rates may increase as cases begin to spread to older communities.
