Japan has a new anti-coronavirus pet and distributes loose mask in Tokyo

With the existing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, some of Japan’s cute and original pets have never been more relevant. If I ever met Awawa, the superhero of handwashing bubbles, Quaran, the forty-something mascot, and the mythical Amabie who protects from pests, say hello to Koronon, the anti-coronavirus cat.

Koronon’s project may not be more obvious: the pink cat wears a giant red “X” marked on “Covid-19” on its abdomen while holding a purple heart-shaped shield named after him. Koronon also wears a mask; it even puts a transparent plastic face shield for additional coverage (as shown in the photo above).

Recently, the cheerful pink cat toured Tokyo, handing out loose disposable masks in neighborhoods such as Shibuya, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. If you need to meet the pet, you can check koronon’s apparition calendar on their Instagram account (Japanese only). Koronon’s Instagram, the pet can also be booked to make a stop at schools or businesses to share their positive message about protection in these difficult times.

Consult our advisor to leave safely in Tokyo, or for that matter.
