Japan and the United States plan to hold “two plus two” security talks between their foreign and defense ministers soon, most likely in January, diplomatic sources said Wednesday, as allies face situations demanding greater security from China, North Korea and Russia.
The first discussions in this format between the two countries in about a year would stick to a planned review of Japan’s national security strategy until the end of the year. The country’s international relations and long-term security policy rules will be updated with two other key defense documents.
