Five days after surviving an assassination attempt, former President Trump will officially settle for the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday at the climax of the 2024 Republican National Convention.
The shooting, which occurred on Saturday at Trump’s rally in western Pennsylvania, where a spectator was killed, as well as the shooter, quickly impacted the tone and message of the conference and replaced the former president’s speech.
Trump, in an interview with the Washington Examiner on Sunday, said that “honestly, it’s going to be a totally different speech now. “
“It is a possibility to unite the country. They gave me this possibility,” she stressed.
And in an email to supporters the day before his speech, Trump said, “I will lay out my goal to UNITE OUR COUNTRY AND MAKE IT GREATER THAN EVER!” »
The pressure for party unity was felt in the first three days of the convention, when former Republican presidential rivals Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and former U. N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who battled Trump in a debatable first season, delivered speeches from the former president’s podium.

As the Republican National Convention continues and arrangements are made for former President Trump’s remarks on Thursday, here’s a look at his two previous speeches at conferences in 2016 and 2020:
Much of his remarks focused on his vision of restoring law and order to the United States, as it relates to crime and the southern border.
Trump spoke of crimes perpetrated through illegal immigrants as he sought a more secure border, kicking off a trend that continues, with Republicans emphasizing heinous crimes allegedly committed through suspects who entered the country illegally.
Trump’s comments in 2016 would give a glimpse of what much of his presidency, centered on illegal immigration, would look like.
In 2020, after Trump had served as commander in chief for several years, his comments began to focus on another topic. At this point, the country is in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and there is no vaccine available yet. During the pandemic, many speeches were given even remotely.

Before running for Senate, Vance was best known as the author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” which highlights the Ohio senator’s rural upbringing and his family’s story of suffering from poverty and substance abuse.
Vance also paid tribute to his grandmother, saying she was his “guardian angel” who grew up despite economic hardships in spaces like his hometown.
“Thanks to Mamaw, it worked for me,” Vance said.
New Vice President J. D. Vance’s mother, Beverly Vance, gave birth to Vance in 1984, when she was 24.
As Vance documented in his best-selling book “Hillbilly Elegy,” his father abandoned his mother when he was a child and she began to struggle with substance abuse and addiction. In addition, he abused his young son.
In the end, Vance put him in the care of his grandparents, whom he described as industrial union democrats.
Beverly Vance has two children, J. D. and older sister Lindsey. Both young men grew up in the southwestern Ohio town of Middletown.
Beverly, who worked as a nurse, was arrested at the age of 12, which he said was a traumatic experience for People magazine.
“I just looked for this situation to end, and then I collapsed. I felt very unhappy and I felt very lonely because I was sitting in the back of this police car, they just stopped my mom, the relief of surviving some other day. He left and then I just looked for someone to come and take me. “
Beverly Vance, who has been sober since 2014, has been married a total of five times and Vance took her last name Vance from her grandparents.
Vance’s mother gave her speech Wednesday.
“Our motion is about single mothers like mine who struggled with addiction but never gave up and I’m proud to say that tonight my mother is here ten years ago white and sober,” Vance said. “I love you mom. “
Usha Vance, wife of Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, speaks to her husband in a speech Wednesday night at the RNC.

Usha Vance explained that her upbringing was very different from her husband’s, but that her husband “addressed our differences with interest and enthusiasm. “
Vance said it’s “safe to say” that neither expected to find themselves in this position.
“But it’s hard to believe in a harsher example of the American dream. “

Donald Trump Jr. reflected on his father’s murder at his rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend before introducing the Trump campaign’s newly appointed vice president, J. D. Vance, at the third night of the RNC in the battlefield city of Milwaukee, WI.
“And in that moment, my father just showed his character, he showed the character of America,” Trump Jr. said in recounting Saturday’s events. “When he stood, with blood on his face and the flag on his back, the world saw a spirit that may never be broken. ”
“You can see perfectly how much they have divided this wonderful nation,” he said. “They lied about Russia’s collusion. They lied about Joe Biden’s fitness to fulfill his duties. “
“We can’t live on nostalgia,” said Trump Jr. “Yes, America is great. But our greatest days are yet to come. Because no matter how far away that old photo may seem, it’s not the end of our story. We’re like that guy who stood on that platform and felt the bullet go through his flesh just a few days ago in Pennsylvania. He probably would have ended up on the ground, but they abandoned him and when he did, my father raised his fist in the air and. . . what did he say?
“And we will,” Trump Jr. said. “We will do it with our votes. We will do it with our tears. And on November 5, we will do it with our vote. “
“J. D. Vance is going to be a great vice president,” Trump Jr. concluded, as some delegates chanted “JD, JD, JD. “
Ohio Sen. J. D. Vance, who was selected as former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee on the first day of the Republican convention, plans to tie President Biden’s political career to the difficulties of his upbringing in his speech Wednesday.
“When I was in fourth grade, a career politician named Joe Biden supported NAFTA, a bad industrial deal that sent countless smart U. S. -production jobs to Mexico,” Vance will say. “When I was a sophomore in high school, a career politician named Joe Biden presented China with an attractive industrial deal that destroyed even smarter middle-class jobs. And when he was in high school, Joe Biden supported the disastrous invasion of Iraq.
Vance will argue that Trump opposed all of those policies, positions that ultimately landed him running for president.

“I see all the reports,” he said Jones. Es horrifyingly. Of course, at that point, you care about this man, not because he’s the former president or because the election is coming up. “
Jones said he had just woken up from a nap when his phone rang as other people wondered if he had ever spoken to members of the Trump family.
“I had to put on my journalist’s hat,” he said. It’s time to get on the air and start reporting what we knew,” Jones said when he spoke with Trump the day after the shooting. Trump asked Jones how he was doing.

“To JD I am not only a colleague, but also a friend. . . The best thing is that they allowed us to get to know each other like other people, and when other Americans meet J. D. Vance, they will. ” “I love everything about him. “

A lone gunman, Thomas Michael Crooks, 20, shot Trump from a nearby rooftop and shot him in the ear.

McAdams said she didn’t know where the gunfire was coming from and that she, members of the Fox News media team and other professionals at the news firm took cover from the media elevator.
He described the chaos of the giant crowd and considerations about the former president’s safety and security as the gunman near a football field.
Two other people in the crowd were wounded and one man, Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter from Pennsylvania, was shot and killed while protecting his family from bullets.

Biden’s most sensible deputy campaign manager, Quentin Fulks, reacting to Haley’s comments, told reporters Wednesday morning that “last night, Nikki Haley got lost” and accused her of “throwing themes of extremist MAGA speeches. “

If President Biden remains in the race despite calls for his resignation, he will most likely settle for the party’s nomination on Aug. 22, the last day of the convention.
Biden has vowed to stay in the race, but if he changes his mind, the party could simply hold an open convention, something that hasn’t been done since 1968, after President Lyndon Johnson’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Experts largely believe Biden would retain enough delegates to remain a candidate if he makes the decision not to withdraw from the race.
Throughout American history, political party conventions have increasingly had ceremonial formalities.
The last Republican open conference was held in 1976 between President Gerald Ford and California Governor Ronald Reagan. Ford had the support of centrists and liberal Republicans from the Northeast, while Reagan received the support of a coalition of conservatives from the West and South, adding the “Reagan’s Raiders” to the Texas delegation. Although it came close, Ford eventually won in the first round.

“It was moving,” he said. I think he was even moved simply to enjoy this moment. He had an expression of gratitude towards all the other people who were here. I think he also realizes that he was so close that he wasn’t there. If I hadn’t moved my head that way, I might not have been there.
Perino called it an “extraordinary night” and said it moved throughout the night.

All of these groups together had about $240 million in cash at the end of June. Biden’s campaign said it had more than $90 million in its coffers at the end of May.
If the president resigns, the crusade budget can remain in the crusade if Harris becomes the nominee.

But there’s a catch, because the law requires super PACs to pay higher fees for advertising time.
Former President Trump’s nominee to be his running mate on this year’s Republican slate, Ohio Sen. J. D. Vance has been an outspoken critic of the Biden administration’s provision of student loans as part of repeated calls from the White House to cancel loans to borrowers. debt.
Biden’s plan has faced resistance from Republicans, with several states filing lawsuits and Vance joining the ranks of his warring parties in his 2022 United States Senate race, opposing Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan in Ohio.
“Student debt cancellation is a boon to the wealthy, school graduates, and most importantly, to corrupt school administrators in the United States,” Vance wrote in an article in X in April 2022. “Republicans will have to fight this with every single gram of our power and power. “
Following his victory in the 2022 Senate race, Vance co-sponsored a Senate bill that would have repealed the Biden administration’s regulations for implementing student loan assistance, the Congressional Review Act. Although the same bill passed the House and Senate, it failed to override President Biden’s veto.
The legal demands of the Biden administration’s proposal ultimately led the Supreme Court to block the distribution plan in June 2023. However, the White House has continued to search for a plan that meets legal needs and has since released more tailored proposals. . .
