Italy has become the new budget ski destination in Europe, surpassing Bulgaria in terms of affordability, according to a recent study conducted by British agencies and revealed through DPA.
The Bulgarian ski resorts of Borovets and Bansko are ranked second and sixth respectively in an annual study that evaluates the cash cost of ski holidays. The study, conducted by British travel agencies Post Office Travel Money and Crystal Ski Holidays, named the Italian town of Bardonecchia as the most sensible place. Bardonecchia showed a minimum value of 1. 4 percent from last year.
Borovets, in southwestern Bulgaria, took the second position with an increase in value of 8. 2%, while Bansko, in the same region, took the sixth position with an increase of 18. 1%, largely attributed to the emerging costs of ski schools.
The costs of ski passes, equipment rental, lessons, as well as lunches and drinks on the slopes in 36 European cities were analysed.
Notably, values fell in nine of the 31 European winter hotels included in this year’s and last year’s study. The French hotel of Les Arcs and the Swiss hotel of Wengen saw the biggest drops in value, marking a 5. 5% drop this year.
Zermatt in Switzerland emerged as the most expensive ski resort, with prices soaring to more than double those in Bardonecchia.
