A lion spotted on the streets of the central Italian city of Ladispoli after escaping from a circus was captured tonight after “hours of great concern,” according to Mayor Alessandro Grando.
On Saturday afternoon, the mayor had asked the population of this town on the Roman coast, on social networks, to have “maximum attention” and leave their homes due to the presence in the streets of a lion that had escaped from a circus
In fact, the animal had already been seen walking between the houses of Viale Mediterraneo, in the heart of the city in the Lazio region, to the great concern of its neighbors, who recorded it with their phone.
After finally locating the lion in a stream in Ladispoli around midnight, the city council reported that it had been “sedated and captured” and returned to the circus staff, deactivating the alert.
Police personnel, Carabineros, firefighters, local agents, volunteers and the circus itself participated in the operation.
This sparked a debate about the presence of a circus with animals of this type.
The mayor responded to those who criticized him for this that he had not hired him, but that he had arrived indefinitely, and hoped that this anecdote would serve to “clear consciences” and put an end to animal exploitation in circuses. .
