The move would come after the election of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in September and as Italy continues to search for a successor to Alitalia.
In early September, the Italian Ministry of Finance began exclusive talks for the sale of ITA with a consortium comprising Delta, Air France-KLM and the investment fund Certares. However, no agreement has been reached and the era of exclusivity is over. Lutfhansa Group, which in the past had submitted a bid for ITA in partnership with MSC Group, told media it remained interested in the airline.
The ITA took off in October 2021 with 700 million euros of public funds. Lately, the airline serves five U. S. routes, adding 4 from Rome and one from Milan.
