Israel’s Handling of the Journalist Irritates the Media

Israel’s resolve to absolve itself of its duty over the shooting death of a veteran Al-Jazeera journalist has drawn complaints from foreign media. The Foreign Press Association said Thursday that the findings of the long-awaited military investigation into the killing “raise primary questions” about his moves and “serious doubts” about his stated commitment to protecting journalists. The settlement represents foreign media covering Israel and the Palestinian territories, the Associated Press added. Israel declared this week that there was a “high probability” that an Israeli soldier would mistakenly shoot the journalist what it called an extensive exchange of fire with Palestinian militants. Neither the soldier nor the commanders will be punished.
