JERUSALEM, Sept. 5 (Reuters) – Al Israel Airlines said on Monday it would resume nonstop flights to Hong Kong in February after halting them at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The Israeli airline said that following the easing of restrictions by the Hong Kong government and the entry permit for tourists, it would operate with 3 weekly flights via Boeing 787 from February 4, 2023.
El Al noted that it is being executed to expand to more destinations in Asia that are with Israelis.
Although El Al has been given permission to fly over Saudi Arabia, he has still been granted permission to fly over Oman to avoid Iran and gain flight time.
Saudi Arabia announced in July that it would allow its airspace without restrictions. Previously, Israeli airlines could only fly over Saudi territory to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Current routes east of Israel, to destinations such as India and Thailand, traverse Saudi airspace as they fly over the Red Sea around Yemen.
El Al said that once it got Oman’s approval, flights to Hong Kong would be shortened by about an hour. (Reporting through Steven Scheer; Editing via Alexander Smith)
