The Israeli and U. S. air forces on Tuesday introduced two-day training to simulate movements at Iranian nuclear facilities, Israeli media reported.
The drills will be conducted over parts of Israel and the Mediterranean Sea, and will come with long-haul flights like those Israeli pilots would need to adopt to succeed in Iran, some 1,200 miles from the Jewish state.
Advanced fighter jets and refueling planes from both militaries are reportedly participating in the exercises.
A London-based Saudi news outlet reported in August that Israel and the United States had simulated anti-Iran airstrikes and the seizure of Iranian warships in the Persian Gulf. He also said Israel had flown planes through Iranian airspace in recent months.
Iran recently began enriching uranium to 60 percent at its underground nuclear site at Fordow and, as of Oct. 22, had stockpiled 137 pounds of substance, more than enough to produce a bomb if it is 90 percent enriched or weapons-grade.
The head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Military Intelligence Directorate, Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva, said last week that Iran would soon begin enriching at least a “symbolic” amount of uranium to 90 percent, though he added that it is unlikely to rush. towards the pump.
Haliva warned that Tehran had made “significant progress” in its nuclear program and that the network would soon face its “biggest test” to prevent the Islamic Republic from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
