Benjamin Netanyahu said restrictions would keep others within 500 metres of their homes.
Israel on Sunday would again impose a national blockade for 3 weeks after the increase in coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday.
The Israeli leader said the 21-day blockade, which would keep others within 500 metres of their homes, would begin at 11:00 GMT on Friday and could be prolonged if cases remain high.
The measure comes just hours before the start of the Jewish New Year and the main festivities, which also come with the day of Atonement and Sucot.
“Our purpose is to avoid the increase, to contagion,” which has crossed the threshold of 4,000 new constant instances a day,” he said.
The announcement comes despite the refusal of a component of the government’s ultra-Orthodox contingent to impose a blockade during the holidays.
According to the closing guidelines, which have not yet been finalized, indoor meetings would be limited to 10 other people and outdoor meetings to 20, so prayers in synagogues would be seriously affected.

Israel has about 153,700 known cases of Covid-19 and more than 1,100 people have died. Lately, the country is one of the world’s rates of coronavirus infection.
Although Israel first managed to reduce the spread of the virus, protests broke out when opposing instances were set against Mr. Netanyahu and the government’s handling of the pandemic.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets on Sunday to call Netanyahu for his alleged corruption crimes and his inability to deal with the Covid-19 crisis.
They blocked roads leading to Ben Gurion Airport, so Netanyahu flew to the United States to attend the signing of agreements to normalize with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
