Between January and September 2022, 1. 8 million visitors came to Israel
While 277,700 arrived in Israel in September 2022, that figure fell 39% from the record number of 436,500 in 2019, before the covid pandemic, according to the Jewish state’s Bureau of Statistics.
September’s figures were disappointing for a holiday month in which historically many Diaspora Jews travel to the country on vacation. Israel’s tourism recovery lags behind the global average, which was already above 60% of pre-pandemic figures in July.
Restrictions on foreign tourists entering Israel were fully lifted last March, with the Tourism Ministry projecting that the number of visitors to Israel in 2022 would be between 2. 2 and 2. 5 million, well below the 2019 record of 4. 55 million.
Between January and September 2022, only 1. 8 million visitors came to Israel, up from 3. 5 million in January-September 2019.
In early September, the Israel Airports Authority released a forecast suggesting that more than 4 million Israelis would fly for the Jewish holiday that began last September and ends Tuesday. The most popular destinations for Israelis were Turkey, Greece, the United States, Italy and England.
