The organizers of the Vuelta a Burgos announced Tuesday night that all members of the Israel Start-Up Nation team, runners and staff, who had been evaluated for COVID-19, the race had yielded negative results.
Alex Dowsett had joined Itamar Einhorn to withdraw from the Spanish-level race through the team as a precautionary measure after the team’s drivers, Omer Goldstein, tested positive for coronavirus before the race.
Goldstein, who is not in the race, returned positive control on Monday, but touched Einhorn before Einhorn went to Burgos. Einhorn then walked away from the team and checked in on Monday night, but had already contacted Dowsett at the team’s hotel.
A small number of team replacements were also tested in the five-day race along Einhorn and Dowsett, all of which yielded negative evidence.
“After viewing the tests carried out and facilitated through the Israel Start-Up Nation team in the COVID-19 commission of the Vuelta a Burgos, it is shown that all PCR tests conducted through the team provided in Burgos were negative,” the race press said. .
“These double tests were performed on all those who had been in contact with the runner who had not come to start the race, as a precaution, after being in contact with an individual who last Saturday had tested positive for PCR,” he concludes.
Felix Grosschartner of Bora-Hansgrohe won the first tier at Burgos on Tuesday and will wear the leader’s jersey for Wednesday’s level between Castrojeriz and Villadiego.
