Israel Start-Up Nation will launch the Vuelta a Burgos a boy on the court after Itamar Einhorn hit as the main touch to Omer Goldstein, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. Goldstein, who planned to resume racing next week, asymptomatic and has since been quarantined.
Einhorn is the only driver to have been in direct contact with Goldstein before reaching Burgos, and the team is waiting for its control effects but has removed it as a precaution.
“While the effects of the additional tests have not yet been returned, the team’s doctors have to remove Einhorn from the Burgos team as a precaution and continue to track the situation,” Israel Start-Up Nation said in a statement.
“The ISN team operates under the full supervision of your team’s physicians, following strict internal protocols, ICU rules and UCI protocols, and will take all precautionary measures for the fitness of its members and the public.”
The team also sent staff and cyclists who would possibly have been in “immediate proximity in recent days” with Goldstein for COVID-19 tests, adding some who had already arrived at the team’s hotel in Burgos, although the team said Einhorn was the only one to have had direct contact with him.
“The ISN team has incorporated strict rules and protocols for the existing pandemic and is following local government and ICU rules to get back into the races,” the team said. “It is our professional and non-public duty to protect the fitness of everything around us.
“The fitness of cyclists and staff is monitored through the team and includes a series of COVID-19 tests conducted in recent weeks before returning to the competition. Most have given negative results so far.”
COVID-19 has an incubation era of between five and seven days after exposure to an inflamed individual. According to Harvard Health Publishing, a PCR nasal smear test will again be a false negative 100% of the time if a user is verified the same day they are in contact with a coVID-19 user. The false positive rate drops to 40% after 4 days and 20% of the time if tested 3 days after the onset of symptoms. It is very rare for a user to test positive and not inflate with COVID-19.
The Vuelta a Burgos will start on Tuesday with a level of 157 km from the Cathedral of Burgos to the Mirador del Castillo with 153 runners on the starting line.
