Israel is contemplating issuing warnings for other countries, as Iran will possibly try to attack Israelis abroad, the Twelfth Channel reported on Sunday.
The network, without mentioning a source, cited fears that Iran will see Israelis traveling abroad over the summer as targets for revenge attacks. The network did not specify for which nations updated notices can be issued.
The report comes after the National Security Council revised its warning for Turkey last month, saying there was a concrete risk to Israelis through “Iranian terrorists” there and in neighboring countries.
The warning follows the killing of a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officer, Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, whom Iran blamed on Israel.
Khodaei fired five shots in his car at two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle in central Tehran on May 22. He has reportedly been involved in assassinations and kidnappings outside Iran, in addition to attempts to attack Israelis.
Since Khodaei was killed, another Quds Force officer, who oversees IRGC operations, has died under unclear circumstances, as has an engineer at an army site and a scientist who was allegedly concerned about the progression of missiles and drones.
There have also been unconfirmed reports about the death of a scientist working at the Natanz nuclear facility, who has twice been the target of sabotage attacks that Iran has attributed to Israel.
According to the Twelfth Channel, Israel believes that the Iranians have a greater motivation to launch attacks opposite Israeli targets at this time, as the IRGC seeks to repair deterrence inside and outside the country.
Khodaei’s murder is the highest-profile killing in Iran since the November 2020 killing of infamous nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
Israel, which has officially commented on the incident, reportedly raised the security alert point at its embassies and consulates around the world, fearing a retaliatory Iranian attack.
An anonymous intelligence official told the New York Times last month that Israel had told U. S. officials it was the killing. A senior Israeli lawmaker denied it.
