Israel introduced missiles Friday morning in retaliation against Iran, a senior U. S. official told ABC News.

Flights to Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz have been suspended following reports that an explosion was heard in the city of Qahjavaristan, Iranian state media reported. The city of Qahjavaristan is located near Isfahan Airport and the 8th Shekhari Air Force Base, northwest of Isfahan.

The missile launches are in line with last Saturday’s Iranian attack, in which the country sent a barrage of more than 300 unmanned drones and missiles to targets across the country, Israeli military officials said earlier. adding the United States, the officials said.

The attack resulted in only one known Israeli casualty, a 7-year-old woman who was seriously injured when she was hit by shrapnel from an intercepted missile.

The Iranian attack came more than six months after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on October 7, after which the Israeli army began shelling the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s war cabinet have met several times since the Iranian measures and, as ABC News reported, at least two measures had already been aborted.

At a meeting Thursday between U. S. and Israeli officials, the two sides discussed the Iranian attack as well as the IDF’s plans for an operation in Rafah, Gaza Strip, according to the White House.

During the meeting, the “U. S. participants expressed considerations about courses of action in Rafah,” according to a White House statement.

“Israeli participants agreed to address those considerations and have follow-up discussions among experts, overseen through the U. S. -Israel Strategic Advisory Group,” and the officials agreed to meet again “soon,” according to the White House.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan convened the assembly, and the Israeli side was led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi.
