Israel has a population of about 9. 7 million, according to an estimate by the Central Bureau of Statistics released Thursday to mark the end of 2022.
The CBS estimated that of the other 9,656,000 people living in the country, 7,106,000 (73. 6%) are Jews, 2,037,000 (21. 1%) are Arabs and 513,000 (5. 3%) are explained as “other”, adding non-Arab Christians, members of other religions and those classified as not belonging to any religion.
Last year, the population grew 2. 2 percent, which is more consistent than last year’s figure of 1. 8 percent: 62 percent herbal expansion and 38 percent migration.
At the end of last year, the population was 9. 449 million and reached 9. 593 million on the eve of the Jewish New Year in September.
Some 178,000 young children were born in 2022, 74. 8% of whom were Jewish mothers and 23. 8% Arab mothers.
Some 73,000 new immigrants arrived, 58. 1% from Russia and 21. 3% from Ukraine, a direct result of Moscow’s invasion of its neighbor. In 2021, the number of immigrants was about a third: 25,000.
CBS also estimated that about 51,700 more people died in Israel in the past year.
