Foreigners coming from an East Asian country will be required to be tested for the virus.

Israel announced on Friday that it would impose restrictions on visitors from China, where a wave of coronavirus cases has hit the East Asian country following the relaxation of its zero-covid policy.

Foreign airlines will require foreign travel from China to Israel to be tested for the virus. In addition, voluntary sampling stations will be set up for Israelis and foreigners, said new Health Minister Aryeh Deri.

In doing so, Israel joins other countries in adding regulations for flights from China amid considerations about the spread of a new variant of the disease. Spain on Friday became the European country to impose restrictions on arrivals from China, to enter the country, passengers will want to have a negative Covid control result or be fully vaccinated. Spain follows Italy’s announcement of mandatory controls this week. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said so far no new variants had been detected among passengers arriving from China.

The fitness firm of the European Union has described as “unjustified” the arrival of the mandatory coronavirus for travelers from China.

Other countries outside Europe and Israel that will put in place new regulations for arrivals from China include the United States, Japan, India, Taiwan and South Korea.

New covid cases skyrocketed in China in December, with nearly 250 million people in China inflamed with covid in the first 20 days of the month. Beijing, as part of its relaxation of restrictions after almost 3 years, said it would remove the mandatory Covid quarantine for arrivals from January 8, prompting many Chinese to rush to plan trips abroad.
