Is the Mount Meron investigation the final straw for Netanyahu?

JERUSALEM: Don’t you forget the disaster of Mount Meron? This happened in May 2021. Forty-five more people died in a clash of crowds and the collapse of the structure. According to news reports, “Planning and safety officials expressed serious considerations about the welfare of pilgrims at the Lag Baomer festivities on Mount Meron last year, days before a fatal accident on the occasion claimed the lives of forty-five other people. At an assembly on April 22, 2021, former Public Security Minister Amir Ohana police officers allowed more people to attend the event, even as others expressed concerns about overcrowding at the venue.

Now, the official committee tasked with investigating the crisis has issued “official warning letters of negligence and misconduct. “He blamed former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Public Security Minister Amir Ohana, the inspector general of the Israel Police. Kobi Shabtai, former minister of devotee Ya’akov Avitan and several other police, government and security officers.

One wonders how far the duty goes because of the crisis. And who, among the ultra-Orthodox who suggested the occasion to continue, have as much or more duty for what happened.

Should the Prime Minister be among those responsible?

That’s a tough question.

But this is combined with accusations against Bibi for fraud, violation of acceptance and corruption. These are really extensive gifts for the then-prime minister and his wife, as well as deals between Netanyahu and the Americans who control the media. Another case, in which Netanyahu is not directly involved, considers the acquisition of German-made submarines.

The proceedings in all those cases are far from over and can take a long time to succeed in their conclusion. We’ve heard that it will be “years” before we’re done with them.

Meanwhile, Bibi remains the top popular figure in Israeli politics. His party, the Likud, is obviously ahead of the others in the polls, and Bibi’s position as Likud leader seems firm.

What is this total day about Israeli democracy and the rule of law?Do you also criticise the slowness of the enforcement and trial procedure?Like the lengthy procedure of committees appointed to investigate serious problems, such as the Mount Meron disaster?

The former prime minister and the police leader still on duty mocked the committee investigating Mount Meron, and the police leader said he would continue to serve despite the official warning of his guilt.

The overpopulation factor was discussed in meetings involving Netanyahu and the public security minister. General regulations limited meetings to 100, but they were quiet and about 100,000 participated in the fateful event. And while the Corona factor occupied a vital position in meetings, the structural challenges and overall challenge of overpopulation were reputed to be well known.

Netanyahu claimed to be unaware of the problem, but the public security minister said that “the factor of overpopulation (with respect to the coronavirus) has also been raised. We knew there was a real threat.

The election is scheduled for Nov. 1. There have been many polls and there will be more. Currently, it looks like Bibi’s coalition will reach slightly, or fall short of the 61 Knesset seats needed to elect him as prime minister. The main opponent, the current prime minister, Yair Lapid, won around 54 or 55 seats. And two Arab parties would most likely appear to provide it with 61 or more seats. If they do. But polls recommend low turnout among Israeli Arabs. Is opposition to what could simply be described as the Jewish majority continuing? There are almost two months left. Plenty of time for promises and commitments. And more disasters.

We’ll see. (A conclusion for those notes. )

Most likely, it is close. And maybe unstable. Remember the fanciful decisions of several members of the Knesset not to continue with the government of Naftali Bennett. This led to the collapse of the Bennett government and the ongoing national elections lately.
