With just weeks to go before California’s coronavirus state of emergency ends, experts say there are signs that the pandemic is over.
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Just weeks before California’s coronavirus state of emergency ends, experts say there are signs that the pandemic is over.
But as ABC 7 News reporter Tara Campbell discovers, experts say precisely when it’s still on the air.
“Certainly, the most troubling thing about the pandemic is coming to an end,” said Dr. Brown. Maria Raven, emergency medicine leader at UCSF Medical Center.
She says the emergency branch is seeing between 0 and 4 COVID cases per day, since the peak of the pandemic.
“Given the small number of instances we’re seeing and the severity of existing editing of the virus, it turns out it’s time to move on,” he said.

And in a few weeks, California will end its coronavirus state of emergency on Feb. 28.
On Friday, the state said it would require students to get vaccinated against COVID for schools.
“Children will get COVID the same way they get RSV and influenza, which are much more harmful to them at this level than COVID. It’s a reality, but I think it’s becoming good for kids to go back to school. “” Dr. Raven said.
And in another move away from pandemic protocols, the federal government announced in the fall that it was phasing out COVID vaccines; The screening and remedy will also be covered by insurance.
“We probably wouldn’t see a massive effect on the population like we did before for COVID-19,” said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease expert at UCSF.

“Although there are some new and scary variants, the floor it lands on is very inhospitable right now because so many other people have some sort of immunity,” he said.
And he says we’re probably not far away for the pandemic to become endemic, meaning it’s still there, but it’s not disrupting daily life.
“We’re near the end, but the word endemic implies predictability and we don’t have it yet,” Dr. Chin-Hong said.

Cross the fall, he said startled, and it will be time to call him.
