Tourists staying in the Portuguese region of the Algarve have been evacuated from some areas, as temperatures exceed degrees.
The Irish Independent reports that the Quinta do Lago beach hotel, owned by Irish billionaire Denis O’Brien, recalled some visitors after wildfires broke out near the area.
The complex said it ended some spaces as a “precaution” because of its proximity to the fires.
One from the Quinta do Lago hotel said: “After the stage of the fireplace in Quinta do Lago, the control of the Quinta do Lago Group would like to assure all its citizens that it is closely following the scenario with the competent government acting on the spot.
“Some of the most critical spaces near the fireplace have been evacuated, as a precaution. We also need to close our golf courses, sports facilities and points of sale to ensure the well-being of our citizens and guests.
“We would also like to call on the full network to calm down, to stay updated while the local government is working on the ground. Protect yourself.
This comes as the Foreign Ministry said it would offer consular assistance to Irish citizens and issued new advice, asking Irish tourists to be ready to replace their short-term plans.
