Iran’s Raisi and Saudi Arabia’s MBS Discuss Israel-Hamas War

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) spoke by phone about the war between Israel and Hamas, in their first call since Tehran and Riyadh restored relations.

The two leaders on Wednesday discussed “the desire to end war crimes against Palestine,” Iranian President Mohammad Jamshidi’s political affairs adviser, Mohammad Jamshidi, told X.

“Islamic unity emphasized and believed that the regime’s crimes and the green gentility of the United States would cause a destructive lack of trust for the regime and its supporters. “

Saudi state news agency SPA said MBS was under pressure over the “need to adhere to the principles of foreign humanitarian law and expressed deep fear about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and its effect on civilians. “

The Saudi crown prince also said the kingdom is making “maximum efforts to interact with all foreign and regional parties to avoid the current escalation,” the SPA said.

The talks between the two leaders came as Israel carried out airstrikes in Gaza for the fourth day in a row, following multiple Hamas attacks on Israel over the weekend.

So far, more than 1,200 Palestinians in Gaza and 1,300 in Israel have been killed in the violence, according to Palestinian and Israeli officials.

Saudi Arabia and Iran resumed in March as part of a China-brokered deal that ended seven years of hostility between the components.

Riyadh severed ties with Tehran in 2016 after protesters stormed Saudi diplomatic posts in Iran, following Saudi Arabia’s execution of a Shiite academic.
