OCI NV needs to reduce greenhouse fuel emissions from its plants, seeking 20% relief in the “intensity” of operations, measured through the amount of carbon dioxide produced per ton of fertilizer, through 2030, according to the company’s 2021 annual report.

To achieve this environmental goal, Iowa Fertilizer Co. a. signed with the Navigator CO2 pipeline project, which would collect up to 1. 13 million metric tons of CO2 a year from the Wever plant and send them to an underground sequestration site in Illinois.

Project Navigator is one of 3 pipelines proposed to traverse the state, taking credit for federal tax credits for carbon capture and storage.

Iowa Fertilizer Co. also hopes to connect to a proposed 14-mile NuStar anhydrous ammonia pipeline for Lee County, Pen City Current reported.
