Innovation, science and generation would defeat COVID-19 and rebuild global economies, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa’s speech read by The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Blade Nziman on Friday at a virtual convention on science and innovation on COVID-19, Xinhua news firm reported.
Ramaphosa said the convention is a platform for all stakeholders to share their experiences, most productive practices and seek a solution to combat COVID-19.
“A strategic partnership in the fields of science, generation and innovation will play a role in our economic recovery. As we continue and redesign our economies, we will want to explore opportunities in sectors such as low-carbon energy, circular and green economies, smart production, and little data,” Ramaphosa said.
He called for maintaining the momentum of foreign solidarity to ensure the economic recovery and accessibility of COVID-19 vaccines and remedies if they are found. Ramaphosa under pressure, this remedy will have to be available to all countries and that no country deserves to be left behind.
“As we try to succeed together on this pandemic, we will have to share our reports and experience. There is an immense possibility to bring economic expansion to life in the adoption of innovation and the conduct of technological responses to the provision of services,” he said. .
Nzimande said South Africa had funded multifaceted studies to combat COVID-19 and was willing to work with others to find answers to the pandemic.
“We value clinical diplomacy, inclusion and equity in applying clinical benefits to lives, systems and rebuilding the economy and related price chains,” he said.
