The southern state of Kerala reported a record 1,758 new coronaviruses on Tuesday, and the Thiruvananthapuram district accounts for more than a quarter of that figure, even as the total number of in the state approached 50,000.
After obtaining bouquets for battle with the coronavirus in the early days of the pandemic, Kerala faces a difficult task on this front.
However, some citizens of the state seem baffled by the numbers and have had some strange concepts to raise their business.
An electronics store has generated controversy over an advertisement urging others to inflate with the fatal virus within 24 hours to get a reduction of 50,000 rupees.
The ad aired in state newspapers, which promised a refund of 50,000 rupees without GST.
It didn’t take long for citizens to rush into the store, leading the state leadership to take strict action against the owners.
A lawyer from the municipality of Pala in Kottayam also wrote a letter to the chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, saying that the promotional offer was illegal and punishable, India.com reports.
According to Unlock 3 status guidelines, only 20 other people can enter the branches.
Health Minister KK Shailaja said Tuesday that 1,758 new cases of positive crown had been detected, the largest build-up in a one-day state.
Currently, there are 16,274 cases active, while 31,394 patients have cured the disease.
“On Tuesday, 1,365 patients were cured. Of the 1,758 new cases, the District of Thiruvananthapuram had the highest percentage with 489. Similarly, another 1,641 people are inflamed and here too the district of the capital had 476,” Shailaja said.
Currently, 1,65,564 others are low in various locations, adding 13,633 in various hospitals. There are 565 crown access points in the state.
The weekly cabinet assembly scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed for Saturday, as CM Vijayan and seven of his closet colleagues are moved remotely after a plane crash at Karipur Airport on August 8.
