BANGKOK/JAKARTA/HANOI – Indonesia’s successful search for a local coronavirus vaccine shows the demanding situations and opportunities for Southeast Asian countries as they seek a path between Western drugmakers and opposing suppliers from China and Russia.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo observed last month that fitness staff were receiving the first doses of the IndoVac vaccine, described as halal by Indonesia’s Islamic government, at a stop at state-owned drugmaker Bio Farma in West Java.
