Indonesia’s capital extends social restrictions as infections rise

YAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on Thursday extended its social restrictions to stop the transmission of developing coronavirus in the country, as the country reported 2098 new cases, its governor said.

Governor Anies Baswedan has extended restrictions on the supply of restaurants, places of worship and public transport to operate with limited capacity until August 27.

“Through this extension, we, in combination with the police and the military, will take steps to enforce the law, especially the use of masks among the population,” Baswedan said in a statement.

Baswedan 65% of Jakarta’s 4,456 isolation beds were occupied.
