Officials in the country instituted the mask order in July, but allowed local government to impose sanctions for disobedience to the rule.
In Cerme district, the government orders those who refuse to wear masks to pay 150,000 rupees ($10) or face social punishment. Social punishment is the ultimate popular option, District Chief Suyono told CNN, which includes bombs or cleanup.
He told the chain that he hoped that grave excavation would demonstrate “first-hand the genuine and serious effect of COVID-19. “The undertakers are not helped when the bodies are buried, he added.
Cases continue in this Southeast Asian country as Indonesia’s fitness formula reaches its capacity. All emergency teams at 20 Jakarta hospitals that have been approved to treat COVID-19 patients are full, authorities said Monday, according to CNN.
