The Indonesian government is currently establishing a tourism fund to support the country in developing sustainable tourism and attract more visitors, a Minister said.
Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, said the tourism fund, which is expected to be introduced in early 2024, would manage an initial fund of 2 trillion rupiah ($129 million) to help promote tourism events and the nation. “We will use the fund for domestic and foreign events, such as sports, music and cultural arts, to be held here in Indonesia.
“This also includes high-level summits that may not be directly similar to tourism, as meetings abroad also have economic impacts,” Uno told reporters.
Indonesia will host at least three foreign events in 2024: the BWF Badminton World Tour-Indonesia Masters, the 10th World Water Forum and the Indonesian MotoGP in Mandalika.
The program, Uno said, is expected to contribute to the post-Covid recovery of Indonesia’s tourism sector.
According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), from January to October Indonesia recorded 9. 49 million tourist arrivals, surpassing the government’s target of 7. 4 million earlier this year.
