Indonesia to begin coVID-19 vaccination by year-end

Indonesia plans to vaccinate millions of others who oppose COVID-19 until the end of this year in the hope of curbing immediate coronavirus transmission in the country.

Up to 30 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be used for vaccination in cooperation with Chinese biopharmaceutical manufacturer Sinovac Biotech and G42 of the United Arab Emirates for vaccination, he said.

“A user will want two doses of vaccine. Vaccination will begin by the end of 2020 if clinical trials go smoothly,” Thohir told lawmakers at a parliamentary consultation.

On 21 July, the director of the Food and Drug Control Agency, Penny Kusumastuti Lukito, said that Indonesia had entered the third phase of clinical trials of the vaccine, which the vaccine is about to be approved.

Thohir, who is minister of state-owned enterprises, noted that a user will be vaccinated twice and that at that time the vaccine will be given two weeks after the first.

By next year, he said the government planned to protect 290 to 340 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to cooperation with the two companies, Minister Thohir said Indonesia is seeking to produce vaccines against the virus itself.

President Joko Widodo said that priority would be given to the organization of others vulnerable to transmission of the virus, such as the organization of the elderly and paramedics.

COVID-19 has arrived in Indonesia with more than 1,500 cases shown consistent with the day.

The Ministry of Health reported 2,719 new ones on Thursday, bringing the total to 162,884 with a total of 7,064 deaths.
