JAKARTA – The Indonesian inventory market fell five% Thursday morning, sparking a breakout after Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced that movement restrictions would be re-implemented in the Indonesian capital at starting Monday.
The Indonesian Stock Exchange paused for 30 minutes when the Jakarta Composite Index fell to its lowest point since last June. Negotiations resumed around 11 a. m.
Baswedan announced Wednesday night that the number of infections and coronavirus deaths in Jakarta has increased dramatically since mid-August, ranging in consideration that hospitals and extensive care beds for COVID-19 patients in Jakarta were full. next week.
“Jakarta has lately 4,053 isolation beds for patients with COVID-19. Yesterday, 77% were used,” the governor said. If this scenario continues, if we do not step on the brakes, based on our projection, the insulation beds will be complete until September 17 and after that we will no longer be to accommodate COVID patients. “
The 528 beds of extensive care for patients with severe symptoms are expected to run out next Tuesday.
Baswedan said the Jakarta government is in talks with several personal hospitals to increase the number of beds for COVID-19 patients by 20% this month. Currently, 67 of the 190 hospitals in the capital serve as hospitals for COVID-19 patients.
“But if that’s accompanied by strict [movement] restrictions, even those [new] hospital beds will be full until the week of October,” Baswedan said.
Under the restored restrictions, the maximum of offices and public spaces will be closed; schools will remain closed and restaurants will be open for takeaway orders; neighborhood mosques will be able to open in spaces free of coronavirus infections.
As in April and May, when Jakarta first imposed restrictions before making them more flexible in June, 11 key industries, including food, finance, structure and logistics, will be exempt and even have operational limits.
“As at the beginning of the pandemic, we will paint from home, examine at home, and pray at home. This is a [more serious] emergency than before, so don’t leave space unless it’s necessary,” Baswedan said.
As of Wednesday, Jakarta had reported 49,397 cases of the coronavirus, among Indonesia’s 34 provinces, and 1,334 deaths. But the number of funerals applying fitness protocols for COVID-19 has exceeded 5,000, according to knowledge of the Jakarta government website.
Nationwide, Indonesia has reported a total of 203,342 cases and 8,336 deaths. While the number of infections is the highest in Southeast Asia after the Philippines, it is number 2 in Asia by deaths, only in India.
Baswedan said clusters, as well as restaurants and public transport, have contributed to the significant accumulation of cases in Jakarta in recent weeks.
“The president suggested two days ago to reactivate the economy until [public] fitness is under control. Given this emergency, we still have no option to apply the emergency brake as soon as possible. “
