Indonesia begins large-scale trials of COVID-19 blood plasma therapy

Research on its effectiveness and protection is ongoing, some early effects are encouraging.

“The main objective of researchers is the protection and efficacy of treatment. To this end, Litbangkes supports the efforts of all physicians to carry out convalescence treatment in patients with Covid-19,” he said.

Treatment will use blood plasma taken from cured patients.

The plasma will be injected into critically ill Covid-19 patients in hopes of boosting their immune systems. David H Muldjono, a researcher at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, said that convalescent plasma treatment can be performed in Covid-19 patients who have severe symptoms with pneumonia and hypoxia.

Test subjects should be at least 18 years of age and lately have moderate to severe symptoms of Covid-19 Subjects will receive an injection of two hundred ml of blood plasma twice daily for 3 days and will be monitored intensively for 28 days. Clinical trials are conducted through Litbangkes in partnership with the Eijkman Institute, the Ministry of Research and Technology, the National Research and Innovation Agency (Brin), the Indonesia Red Cross (PMI), the Food and Drug Surveillance Agency (BPOM). and several hospitals.
