India seeks ties with Egypt, Jaishankar visits Cairo

During his first bilateral visit to Egypt, Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar is expected to provide an update on bilateral, regional and global issues. And on how to move forward, adding basic UN reforms where any of the countries have vital interests at stake.

The two-day scale, which begins Oct. 15 and 16, also looks at assessing effects from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s 2016 scale in New Delhi. This scale follows Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent stopover for the country where President Sisi also stopped. Due to the evolution of world politics, the two countries are willing to cooperate in the fields of maritime security, counter-terrorism, co-production of military platforms, cooperation in the area, and defense and security. The two countries are also willing to deepen ties in industry and investment, food security and people-to-people relations.

MEA the agenda

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), the minister will travel there at the invitation of his counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry, minister of Egypt.

Also on his calendar are interactions with the Indian community, adding academics founded there, as well as a speech to a gathering of the Egyptian and Indian business community.

During Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s recently concluded stopover in the country, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to encourage defense cooperation between the two countries.

Importance of Egypt

“The two countries have been key partners of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and have been a linchpin for India’s technique in the Arab world and in Africa, especially in North Africa,” Ambassador Anil Triguynat said.

The former diplomat told Financial Express Online that Egypt is also in favour of fertilizer security in India as it ensures Cairo’s food security. “As global dynamics change, new spaces for strategic cooperation are identified,” says Amb Triguynat.

DefExpo

A delegation is expected to participate in the upcoming India-Africa Defence Dialogue and IOR Defence Ministers’ Conclave to be held on the sidelines of DefExpo next week in Gandhinagar.

As India and Egypt celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, they will count and reconstruct the ongoing ancient dating with new dimensions added.

Sharing his views, Ambassador Triguynat said: “Egypt will be well prepared to raise India’s awareness in besieged Libya and the Eastern Mediterranean. Defence and security collaboration has taken on new strategic importance with enhanced exchanges, joint trainings culminating in that of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

“Recently, Indian and Egyptian corporations signed deals worth US$8 billion in line with India’s hydrogen mission. More than 50 Indian corporations are in Egipto. Et India has invited Egypt as a “guest country” for the G20 summit in 2023. The Arab country will also host COP 27 in which India will be a full wife in the fight against climate change.  »

“It will be recalled that after the revolution in this country, President Morsi went to New Delhi. As such, it is a rounded rendezvous between two major regional powers. It may even be a precursor to a stopover in Prime Minister Modi for Egypt,” TrigunAyat said.

India-Egypt trade

According to MEA, Egypt is India’s largest trading partner in Africa. Therefore, the scale that begins tomorrow, the focus will also be on bilateral trade, investment and trade.

Bilateral industry figures for fiscal year 2021-22 shared through MEA imply that the industry reached a record 7260 million US dollars. India’s investment in the country exceeds 3150 million US dollars.

More than 50 Indian corporations are suppliers and belong to sectors, including energy, infrastructure, retail, manufacturing, chemicals, among others.
