Warning that the “enemy” covid-19 virus is changing shape, EU Health Minister Mansukh Mandavya on Thursday called on states to stick to protocols and develop genome sequencing to timely identify the new variant.
“Our enemy is becoming over time and we will have to continue our collective struggle against it with perseverance and determination,” Mandaviya told parliament ahead of a review assembly of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We are attentive to the global covid scenario and taking measures accordingly. States have been asked to develop total genome sequencing of all positive cases to find new variants, if any, circulating in the country and to facilitate and adopt required public fitness measures,” he said.
The high-level assembly met after cases of the Omicron BF. 7 subvariant were shown in the country, two in Gujarat and Odisha. The variant is to blame for the existing rise in covid cases in China.
Mandaviya said that in recent days there has been an increase in covid cases worldwide; however, in India, the number of cases is decreasing. “In recent days, we have noticed an expanding trajectory of covid cases around the world. India, on the other hand, continues with a downward trajectory of cases in the afterlife. year. Currently, an average of 153 new cases are reported across the country, however, globally, 5. 87 lakh of new cases are reported,” he said, bringing up the large number of cases reported in the United States, Japan, France, Greece, Italy and South Korea.
“The media also reports a large number of covid cases and deaths in China,” he said in one of the two chambers.
Listing the measures taken in India, the minister called on states to follow the correct covid protocols after festivals and the New Year season.
“States will also need to focus on ensuring effective network awareness of compliance with covid-appropriate behavior, which includes wearing masks, hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene practices, in addition to physical distancing.
“States ensure that the vaccination dose policy increases and that the necessary awareness is carried out within the community. States are requested to ensure other people wear masks, use disinfectants and maintain social distancing while raising awareness of precautionary doses,” he said. , adding that a random sampling of 2% of all foreign passengers is being considered as in all foreign airports.
Mandaviya said India has been proactive in handling the pandemic. The central government has provided monetary assistance to states in the fight against the pandemic and 220 crore of covid vaccines have so far been administered, he added.
“India is already following the right habit for covid and is taking all measures. I call on all members to contribute to awareness-raising. We have also begun taking random RT-PCR samples among passengers arriving at the country’s foreign airports. We are committed to fighting the pandemic and are taking appropriate measures,” he added.
