Depressed by the symptoms of coronavirus, a graduate student from the Indian city of Bangalore committed suicide on August 18.
Sandeep Kumar, a student at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, was discovered dead in his room, local police told the media.
Police suspect it is a suicide, but investigations are ongoing.
“Sandeep Kumar committed suicide in his room hanging himself.He was suffering from depression and had symptoms of coronavirus,” said a police officer investigating the case.
According to the official, the 25-year-old student, who is pursuing his master’s degree in Chhattisgarh state, had already texted some of his friends.
The incident was revealed when the high school security guards were asked through staff members to check on Kumar in his room.The room was closed from the inside and when the door was forcibly opened, the student discovered that it hung from a ceiling fan.

IISc condemned the student’s death and asserted that the intellectual well-being of its students, university, and staff
and has provided welfare services and resources for those in need, according to local media.
“We expressed our sincere condolences to the circle of family and friends of the student, who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree from MTech in the Department of Computer Science and Data,” said a member of the institute.
