India will reintroduce mandatory COVID-19 for travelers from several major Asian countries, adding China, amid fears that a new wave of infections will hit the world’s most populous country right now.
RT-PCR tests will be required of travelers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand starting Jan. 1, India’s Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a Twitter post on Dec. 29. Within 72 hours of their trip, they will also have to upload their reports to India’s Air Suvidha portal, which was suspended in November.
India, home to 1. 4 billion people, reported 268 new COVID cases on Dec. 29, since Dec. 2, according to data from the Federal Ministry of Public Health.
An RT-PCR check has been made mandatory for travelers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand as of January 1, 2023. They will want to upload their reports to the Air Suvidha portal before they travel.
