PARIS, Sept. 19 (Reuters) – A sudden increase in the daily death toll in France from COVID-19 is the result of unreported cases in the past at a hospital near Paris, according to statements by fitness authorities.

The Ministry of Health reported Friday that the total number of COVID-19 deaths increased from 154 to 31249, a maximum of four months in the number of deaths and three times last week’s levels.

This figure included 76 deaths recorded at a hospital near Paris, according to an explanatory note published online through Public Health France, the country’s national fitness firm that reports new cases of COVID-19 every day.

These un reported deaths in the past were added retroactively at the same time, the firm said, explaining the magnitude of Friday’s jump. On Thursday, the French government said the death toll had risen to 50 in a day.

“This knowledge is ed up to date on 237 admissions files, adding 76 DeathArray . . . this explains the increase in the number of deaths reported so far,” the fitness firm said.

The hospital in question is located in the Essonne branch, about 55 km south of Paris, according to an independent Geodes agency, which monitors public fitness data.

“This increase in the number of other people hospitalized in Array . . . it doesn’t reflect new hospitalizations, but recently reported hospitalizations,” Geodes said on his website, referring to Essonne Hospital.
