The Spanish city of Pamplona on Thursday held the bull race for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, injuring six other people as thousands took to the streets to take part in the debatable tradition.
The bullfight, of millenary tradition, is part of the annual dinner of San Fermín de Pamplona, which takes place from July 7 to 14.
The bull race takes place every morning of the festival at 8 a. m. , with six bulls guided by six oxen, an event that usually lasts less than three minutes, the Associated Press reported.
The race is dangerous, with bulls known for rounding up or killing runners, yet only six other people were injured Thursday, plus an American who broke his arm, CNN reported.
The occasion has long attracted complaints from animal rights activists, and is also debatable due to the risks to attendees.
