On Thursday, some 40,000 people took to the streets of Benidorm to attend the annual “Costume Party” in the city’s Rincon de Loix district.
It bills itself as the largest costume party in Europe and was devised 26 years ago by local businessman Manuel Nieto.
The event is popular with British expats and also attracts British tourists who book a stay in Benidorm to coincide with the event.
Numerous spectators dressed up to witness the parade that at 3:00 p. m. with various floats accompanied through bands, dance groups and DJs.
About twenty floats toured the streets of Lepanto, Derramador and Gerona, amidst applause from spectators along the route.
The event was attended by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, as well as other municipal authorities.
Last year’s organisers’ attendance would likely have been surpassed, as the 2022 edition was the first party in three years due to the Covid pandemic.
