Imported doses of the Russian Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine will cost Rs 995. 40 per shot, the company’s India venture, Dr Reddy Laboratories, said on Friday.
The value includes 5% GST over the dose.
However, the vaccine doses that will be manufactured in India will be cheaper.
“Further shipments of imported doses are expected in the coming months. Subsequently, procurement of Sputnik V vaccine from Indian trading partners will begin,” Dr Reddy said.
The company said it is working intensively with its six production partners to meet regulatory requirements for agile and timely delivery.
The first dose of the vaccine was also administered on Friday in Hyderabad as part of a limited pilot mission and a convenient release of Sputnik V in India.
The vaccine will most likely be available in the market from next week, the Center announced on Thursday, as several states face acute shortage.
“I’m pleased to say that we expect it to be available on the market next week. We expect the sale of the limited source from there (from Russia) to start next week,” he added. Niti Aayog VK said Pablo.
The country will produce 15. 6 crore doses of the Russian Covid vaccine.
“Its production will begin in July and it is estimated that 15. 6 crore doses will be manufactured in this period,” Paul said.
The first batch of imported doses of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in India on May 1.
This is the third vaccine that India has brought out after ‘Covishield’, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, and ‘Covaxin’, the indigenous vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech. Covishield is manufactured through the Serum Institute of India.
With an efficacy of 91. 6%, Sputnik V was the world’s first coronavirus vaccine. Data from clinical trials published in The Lancet indicated that the Covid-19 vaccine “appears and is effective”.
More than 60 countries had registered Sputnik V for emergency use and most of those countries had already received the first batch of the vaccine.
Russia is reportedly actively marketing Sputnik V despite a relatively slow domestic rollout and limited production capabilities.
