Seven at the Imperial Oil refinery in Strathcona County tested positive for COVID-19, and the province reported 103 new cases and one more death on Thursday.
The corporation announced active instances and two recoveries in a press release.
In Thursday’s update, the province’s medical director of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said Alberta Health is aware of 3 active cases and 3 cures at the refinery.
“Local public fitness works heavily with the company, which is working very hard to keep all known contacts at home and offer evidence,” he said.
Sherene Khaw, director of communications at Alberta Health, said in an email that the notification formula may not be up-to-date, but that she will have updated data on Friday.
Previously, there were discrepancies between COVID-19 figures published through Alberta Health and long-term care centers. Alberta Health spokesman Tom McMillan told Postmedia that this is because the establishments were aware of the instances in the province, delaying the figures published through Alberta Health.
Institutional outbreaks are publicly announced when Alberta Health has shown or more cases.
Imperial has asked some of its members to isolate themselves as a precautionary measure while testing. The company plans to expand a way to provide voluntary on-site testing to workers.

On 1 August, Edmonton passed a mandatory regulation on masks for all indoor public spaces and public vehicles. After about 3 weeks, Hinshaw stated that the province did not know whether masking policies affected the number of cases or whether others were more aware of COVID-19 restrictions.
“It’s hard to say,” he says. “Lately we are looking for a lot in knowledge and looking for modes of transmission to check whether or not there has been an effect on the statutes. Of course, a lot of things are happening at the same time. “
The last death of a woman in the 80th years of the north, raises the total number of deaths in the province to 227.
