Facebook collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Hollywood names such as Mick Jagger, Will Smith and Sophie Turner for Sunday’s fundraising concert.
On Twitter, filmmaker Karan Johar on Monday shared a symbol that the concert had the world’s largest live fundraiser on Facebook by raising Rs 4. 3 crore online (and counting) thanks to corporate and philanthropic donations amounting to Rs 47. 77 crore, and counting.
“From our center to yours. Thanks for watching. Thanks for responding. Thank you for making a donation. #IForIndia as a concert. But it can be a movement. Let’s continue to build a safe, healthy and strong India. India, please make a donation,” he wrote.
All proceeds from the fundraising concert will be donated to the Indian COVID Response Fund, controlled through GiveIndia, to help efforts on the ground.
The concert featured Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Diljit Dosanjh, Dulquer Salmaan, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Mindy Kaling, Jack Noir, among others.
In addition to singing a song and reading poetry, the celebrities addressed the plight of migrant workers, day laborers, hunger in times of COVID-19, child abuse and domestic violence, which have been on the rise since the start of India’s crisis. Close March 25.
