Having arrived from Nigeria earlier this year, the idea of getting loose clothes never crossed the mind of 23-year-old Emmanuel Joseph.
“I’m fortunate to be in a country here where they give people loose-fitting clothes, force them, or promote them to citizens,” Joseph says.
“It’s nice. “
Joseph and his circle of family were at the London Let’s Be Kind” occasion at Silverwoods Arena, where the local charity distributed donated items.
“Today we are many newly arrived families,” says Kay Habib, founder of the occasion and the charity.
“They were given a lot of clothes for winter and vacation, and also anything cool to wear at work. “
This is the third time the organization has organized a similar event. The first took place last November, where many other people attended the event on Dundas St.
Last week, they held an event combined with the Ark Aid project and saw more than three hundred people walk through the gates.
“It’s very special for my family,” Ruben Vasquez, who is from Colombia.

Habib says many of those who toast are spending their first winter in London. They were brought to the occasion thanks to their connections through local agencies.
Joseph, who works in a factory in St. Thomas, Ontario, was thrilled to buy clothes for Christmas and for work.
He says he suffered in Nigeria when he arrived in Canada, but he’s thrilled to be here.
“It’s my first winter here, but I’m willing to spend more in Canada. “
Habib says they will gather garments during the winter to donate this next time in the spring, when the season changes.
