About three hundred employees working on the structure of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Mersin, southern Turkey, were poisoned during their lunch break due to an infected poultry soup, an employee revealed.
The employee contacted Labour Party (EMEP) MP Sevda Karaca about the incident on 14 September.
In offering the main points of poisoning incidents, the employee also pointed out that those who dared to report such violations were fired.
MP Karaca expressed her considerations to the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, sharing screenshots of the message, which briefly read: “The incident on September 13 when a company called ‘Taner Yemek’ served us spoiled meat, resulting in the loss of thousands of workers requiring hospitalization.
“I have been running here for 4 months and they have been serving us spoiled food forever. There is no food tracking and these types of incidents have happened before, but the company has covered it up. Difference between the food we are given and that provided to Russian workers: discrimination here is evident.
“The toilets are in poor condition. People fulfill their wishes in a bad environment all over the place. We queue for hours in the morning. The Russians enter first. Due to our replaced vehicles, injuries and fatalities occur. Accidents are ignored as on-the-job injuries. Workers who express their discontent and raise their voices are forcibly evicted and their credentials confiscated.
“That day, I queued for hours to get the serum needed to treat my condition. The hospitals were so full that other people threw themselves on the ground. I felt like I was getting better, but in the morning I ran back. hospital with the same complaint.
“On that day, the hospitals were so full that in Mersin, Gülnar, Büyükeceli, Aydıncık and many other hospitals that I didn’t even know existed, there were thousands of patients. No one explained anything to us and deaths were reported. However, “They have doubts about the veracity of those reports. No one can speak here because they make a living in this place. Anyone who speaks is fired. (TY/VK)
