At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, expressed his joy at attending the forum, expressing his thanks and appreciation to UNESCO and Huawei for choosing Egypt to host the Open. Schools Project.
Technology-Based Open Schools for All (TeOSS)
In conjunction with the launch of the Learning Center, the forum explored practices similar to the TeOSS task. Implemented in partnership with the Ministries of Education of Egypt, Ethiopia and Ghana, the UNESCO-Huawei TeOSS task tests and tests virtual education platforms in the three African countries. It also provides virtual education to teachers and students, develops policy frameworks for virtual education, and evaluates the effectiveness of the task with a view to expanding TeOSS to other countries in Africa.
In Egypt, for example, 300 teachers obtained virtual skills education through the project, and the new learning center will build the remote learning and virtual literacy capabilities of 950,000 K-12 teachers in underserved communities.
In his speech, Sobhi Tawil, Director of UNESCO’s Future of Learning and Innovation Team, welcomed participants to the forum and praised the cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Education and its role in supporting long-term horizons.
The TeOSS task is designed to combine online and offline learning to maximize educational outcomes and also for continuity of learning under general and crisis conditions. According to UNICEF, for example, more than 616 million students were still affected by full or partial school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic as of January 2022.
Building virtual education capacity at the national level can mitigate learning disruptions in the event of unforeseen events.
Huawei’s participation in the task is part of its long-term initiative for virtual inclusion and sustainability of TECH4ALL. The TECH4ALL Educational Domain is committed to generating technological responses that can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Ensure equitable and quality inclusion and schooling and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
