HPE Health Unit reports new cases of COVID-19 in the region

Not surprisingly, public health officials in Hastings-Prince Edward on Wednesday reported a slight buildup of COVID-19 in the region, as cooler temperatures prevail with 78 new high-risk cases, to 54 new high-risk cases.

According to the fitness unit, there were also 88 active high-risk cases, up from 62 recorded on the HPEPH online dashboard last week.

The average number of COVID-19 hospitalizations at regional hospitals has doubled to 25 from 12. 5 cases last week, HPE Public Health said.

Three patients were enrolled in the intensive care unit.

There were seven outbreaks in high-risk settings.

No new deaths were recorded, leaving the total number of deaths recorded in the region since the start of the pandemic at 127.

Statistics show that 81 percent of local citizens have received their first round of vaccinations, the fitness unit said, while another 10 percent have been vaccinated in the past six months.

Meanwhile, across Canada, the latest COVID-19 case numbers through Nov. 7 show that a total of 4. 78 million cases have been recorded since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 8,230 cases nationwide over the past week.

Nationally, 54,902 deaths have been recorded since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 140 new deaths recorded, double the number in mid-September.

There were 37,246 weekly tests reported across Canada with 17.9 per cent positivity.
